Dr. Tera Pruitt is a passionate and dedicated genealogist with 18 years of experience in relevant cultural heritage and family history work. With Scientific Genealogy, you can expect well-researched and high quality family history.

Qualifications and Research Background

Dr. Tera Pruitt holds a Certificate in American Genealogical Studies from the National Genealogical Society. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge in 2011 for research in scientific ethnography and archaeology and also has an MPhil in Heritage Management and Museums, with experience in artefact identification and preservation, archival digitisation, and museum exhibition. She is also currently completing a UK-focused PgCert in Genealogical, Palaeographic, and Heraldic Studies from the University of Strathclyde. Her academic speciality is in researching how we can improve rigorous scientific work in heritage management.

In the past, she has worked with historical archives and collections at the University of Cambridge Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the Ely Museum in England, the Scott Polar Museum in Cambridge, and the Houston Museum of Natural Science in the United States. Her past projects included archival work with paper collections, digitisation of collections, photography and handling of photographic collections, analysing artefacts and creating object histories, and redesigning museum galleries.

Her previous academic roles include researching and lecturing at the University of Cambridge, supervising Masters theses and undergraduate essays for Cambridge students, developing research and grant reports for the US National Science Foundation and Institute of Museum and Library Services as a postdoctoral researcher and project manager at UCLA in California, developing archaeological papers and illustrations at Rice University, developing academic presentations and oral history reports for the Theatre and Performance department at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
